About the Course:
Children are frequently required to face challenges in real-life situations. The Canadian Red Cross program, Stay Safe!, aims to provide children with relevant skills suitable for their age and their ability to enhance their safety. By participating in this program, children will be equipped with the necessary tools to ensure their safety in various scenarios, whether within their community or alone. The training is available in Calgary and Red Deer, or you can request our Mobile Training Unit to visit your location.
Prerequisite:
Minimum of 11 years old or completion of Grade 5.
Couse Content:
Check, Call, Care (includes phoning EMS/911)
Glove removal
Recovery position
Conscious choking (adult/child/baby/alone)
CPR (baby/child)
Illness such as asthma (includes the use of inhaler and spacer), anaphylaxis (includes the use of EpiPen)
Poisoning
Insect stings
Wound care (i.e. minor cuts and scrapes, splinters, nosebleeds, bumps and bruises, life-threatening bleeding, burns)
Head, neck and back injuries, broken bones, seizures.
Reference text with embedded critical thinking activities that will reinforce content
What to Bring:
If each participant could bring a stuffed animal or baby doll large enough to practice dressing and diapering.
Individual snacks and a bag lunch. (please, no nut products)
