About the Course:
The Heart and Stroke Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is the premier advanced resuscitation training designed for healthcare providers to improve the outcomes of pediatric patients experiencing respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
You will be able to practise and train in dynamic role-playing situations that mirror real life, which will help you as a healthcare provider. You will be introduced to a wide range of life-threatening, all-hands-on-deck scenarios involving pediatric patients experiencing respiratory emergencies, shock and cardiopulmonary arrest in which you apply a systematic approach that includes the evaluate-identify-intervene sequence. The goal is to strengthen your ability to recognize, intervene, communicate and work effectively as a critical healthcare team member.
Prerequisite:
Full: PALS Pre-course self assessment of at least 70% or higher and a current Heart and Stroke BLS certification.
Renewal: Current Heart and Stroke PALS certification
Course Content:
The PALS course focuses on building knowledge so you are confident and ready to perform high-quality CPR in various settings. The course covers:
High-quality BLS
Recognition of common pediatric cardiac ECG rhythms
Effective airway management and use of adjuncts
Knowledge of pediatric cardiopulmonary pharmacology
Practical management of complex cases
High-performance team skills

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Heart & Stroke BLS Provider & BLS Provider Renewal Course eligible for two (2) credits per hour under Section 2 of the MOC Program as “Traineeships.”
