About the Course:

The Advanced First Aid Canadian Red Cross course builds upon the knowledge and skills gained in the Intermediate (Standard) First Aid with CPR and AED training. Participants will learn how to conduct thorough patient assessments, provide interventions, and deliver ongoing care in a workplace environment. The training also covers different techniques for transporting an injured worker to a medical facility. You can choose to attend the course in Calgary, Red Deer, or arrange for our Mobile Training Unit to conduct the training at your preferred location.


This course aligns with the CSA Standard Z1210-17 for Workplace First Aid Training.

Prerequisites:

Full course: Participant must have a current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certification or OFA Level 2 and a current CPR level A, C or BLS from an approved Canadian Agency. 


Recertification: A current Advanced First Aid or OFA level 3 and a current CPR level A, C or BLS from an approved Canadian Agency.

  • Airway management and respiratory emergences

  • Circulatory emergencies

  • Shock

  • Hemorrhage and soft tissue trauma

  • Musculoskeletal injuries

  • Chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries

  • Head and spinal injuries

  • Acute and chronic illnesses

  • Poisoning

  • Environmental illnesses

  • Pregnancy, labour and delivery

  • Special populations

  • Crisis intervention

  • Reaching, lifting and extricating patients

  • Transportation

  • Multiple-casualty incidents

  • Pharmacology

  • Marine environment

  • Workplace

Includes any other content required by specific legislation

Course Completion Criteria:

  • Successfully demonstrate the required skills

  • Minimum 75% mark for written, closed book, knowledge evaluation

  • Successfully complete two evaluated scenarios (one each, medical and trauma)

  • Attend and participate in 100% of the course
